RE: All most on the road south

Leaving the Salt Lake Valley on 22 Oct following the warm rays of the Sun. Only place we have to be is Vegas for New Years, have reservations at Main Street Station and I didn't even have to float a loan for the RV park. Yuma in Jan Feb, and if the DW allows it, Quartzsite for the big top. BTW, when is it this year?

CAT OIL MISTER

I understand that CAT has an Oil Mister that replaces the oil blow by tube. It actually makes the oil mist return to the crank case, thus eliminating all the blow by on the back of the MH and the front of the toad. Does anyone have this installed and does it totally eliminate the blow by mess? Cost?

RE: HWY 36 from Ca coast to Red Bluff

To all who advised me not to take 36, thank you. Hwy 20 was great, easier then what we had traveled a few days before. No one warned me about I-80 as you leave the nice smooth 2 lane hwys. That has to be the worst road I have ever had the mh on, even worse then some of our wash board dirt roads here in Utah. The road was so bumpy it actually loosened one of my tire monitor sensors causing the tire to lose 14 psi before I could find a pull out. Ain't going that way until the Gubernator gets that stretch of I-80 fixed.

Reno RV Park

There is a RV Park just on the west outskirts of Reno on the North side of I-80, it has a cafe and I think a few slots. Does anyone know the name of it. Not much to go on but it's been 10 years since we were there.

RE: HWY 36 from Ca coast to Red Bluff

Here is a link to the Calif Motorhome maps. Just click on number 2 when the site comes up and you will see Rt36 as a RED route which prohibits 40 ft Motor homes. That should tell you not to take that route. So be warned, I would take another route like Hwy 20. Motorhome routes Thanks for the info, it will be useful.

RE: HWY 36 from Ca coast to Red Bluff

Folks, thanks for the info, especially the youtube part. These two 40 footers are are now going to take Hwy 20 from the coast over going to Reno. We've been told 20 is a senic route and I'm betting a lot less stress.

HWY 36 from Ca coast to Red Bluff

Quick question folks. Anyone traveled from Fortuna CA over to Red Bluff CA on Hwy 36?? How is the road as far as winding curves and grades?? Appreciate a quick response.

RE: RV overheating

The way I check mine is to wait for dark and then while I'm looking from the rear bedroom access door I have the DW shine a flashlight completely around the radiator from the outside. As long as I can see light shinning through I know I'm good to go. Also, after I had the backend cleaned a few years ago I extended the slobber tube to about an inch or two off the ground. I get some blow by on the rear of the mh and the toad, but cleaning those is a lot cheaper then the removal and steamcleaning of the rear radiator. If you add to the slobber tube, be sure you do not allow it to kink, it must freeflow.

RE: when its done and over with???

Seriously - I'm curious why this is such a facinating topic that we need to discuss it every month :H Most likely because new people enter the arena monthly? This will almost always be a topic just like all the other initial questions involving full-timing.;) Good answer Firedude!

RE: do chassis with rear rad ever overheat re M8R

For the 18-25hp that I'm paying to run the fan, I understand that I'm sacrificing some performance, probably climbing hills. I doubt, however, that if I went to a clutch controlled fan where I wasn't paying that HP premium, it would result in better fuel mileage. I'm already at a point where none believes me anyway and I doubt that I could get that much of an improvement - or could I? You WOULD see an improvement in MPG. Figure .6-.9 MPG improvement-- that is what people who have made the upgrade are reporting. BUT, you will need to look at total installed cost/MPG improvement to determine your break-even miles. Likely, if you had to pay a dealer to install the clutch it would not be economically reasonable. If you install it yourself, the miles driven to break-even would be substantially fewer. OK, I'll bite. Has anyone done this and actually seen 6-9 mpg, that would give my 3126 16-19 mpg. If it's true I'd do it. But need some testimonies first.

RE: TPMS

There were several postitive posts on folks who bought from SAF-TTE and received warranty coverage on problem equipment from the new Authorized distributor. The moderator deleted them as soon as he saw them. I guess he considerated them as advertising. Questions, pm me unless this gets deleted. He closed the thread.

RE: do chassis with rear rad ever overheat re M8R

If you are looking at rear rad. before you buy it have someone on the outside shine a flashlight around the entire rad. then you watch from the rear inside engine access panel, do this in the dark. Talking from experience here, bought a 2001 rear rad with 13,000 miles in Nov 2004, Summer of 2005 showed the rad was clogged due to short oil blow by tube. FL was nice and covered parts (30.00) and I ate the rest 756.00. We check ours at night everytime we come off the road.

RE: What do u do?

Design engineer of instrumented systems. Retired after 25 years. Made fun of those folks I met that had retired and went back to work. Now I are one! Plan on retiring again in a few years (this time for good). Best job I ever had was exhibits manager for a science center. That was after the first retirement. DW is a manager for Wally-World (Please don't hold that agains't me). :) Wally World is great, my favoriate store. Love the cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting. too bad our Wally doesn't make them.

RE: Fuel prices (what the heck?????)

We're down to 3.87 gal here in West Jordan Utah. A suburb of Salt Lake City. Maybe I ought to fire up my MH and go fill up before IKE causes a false inflation. We also have 3 refineries here.

RE: Real World Extended Warranty Experience

Good information. I bought an extended warranty with my used MH 4 years ago and have had no problems with claims. For me it was peace of mind and we are about even on cost of the policy and what they have paid out. It was the Good Sam CSP. Just last week they covered the rear Transmission seal and labor to install along with diagnostics. They paid directly to the shop within 2 hrs after the job was billed. When I inquired as to cost for renewal, it was almost as much for 1 year as I paid for the 4 year contract I have. Which included seals and a 50.00 deductable. Guess they won't see me again, money going to CD for future repairs. Bottom line, read the coverage before you purchase, then check with some repair facilities to see if they'll accept the policy for direct payment. Two facilities I have used here are Freightliner and Smith Power Products who both will not accept third party warranty on RV's, but they will take GS CSP due to the immediate payment.
